Joico Green Award RELEASE

Ragan’s PR Daily honors hair-care manufacturer Zotos International (maker of Joico) for wind-energy public relations efforts

Geneva, New York, June 27, 2013 — The maker of Joico, Zotos International, Inc. (Zotos) has won honorable mention for Best Green Initiative from Ragan’s PR Daily, a top public relations trade publication. The awards honor the best work coming out of corporate and non-profit PR departments and PR agencies all over the country — from multinational corporations to local communications shops.

The award recognized the public relations efforts by Zotos and its partner agency, Dixon Schwabl, for the hair-care manufacturer’s two-turbine, 3.3 MW on-site wind-energy project, which powers its 680,000-square-foot plant in Geneva, N.Y. According to the American Wind Energy Association, the wind project is the largest of any manufacturer in the United States.

The overall winner for Best Green Initiative was Walmart, globally recognized for its green initiatives. Other honorable mentions in addition to Zotos were Ogilvy Washington for LG Electronics; O’Malley Hansen Communications for HanesBrands Inc.; Suasion Communications Group for Concord Suites; and The U.S. Green Building Council.

“We are proud to receive this award, which recognizes Zotos International’s significant leadership and commitment to sustainability in the beauty industry and among salon professional everywhere,” said Anthony Perdigao, Vice President of Operations and Chief Sustainability Officer for the company. “It also acknowledges our efforts to continually educate and encourage others to support and consider their own green power investments.”

Zotos was honored last fall by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with the organization’s Green Power Leadership Award for On-Site Generation. The company currently ranks 18th on EPA’s Top 20 On-site Generation list, which highlights EPA Green Power Partners that have achieved the highest annual on-site green power generation.
