For those who view the ponytail as a cinch-y way to get hair out of the face on a slammed day, we have news for you: It’s also one of the most glamorous ways to do up your ‘do, says our Hollywood hair pro, Paul Norton. So glam, in fact, that Paul convinced actress and model, Olivia Culpo, to let him take the reigns and create an exciting ponytail for her appearance at the International Style Institute in Los Angeles recently.

The look–coined Power Babe–“creates a mix of serious girl boss vibes with a fun flirty texture.” Check out the easy how-tos, below. The results? Beyond gorg!

Step 1: The blowout

Work a dollop of JoiWhip into damp hair, and blow dry fully using a large, round brush.

Step 2: Amp up the volume

Spray Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray from roots to ends to create texture; the added volume will also provide styling control without looking too “done.”

Step 3: The big tease

Finger-comb the hair back to create dimension at the base.

Step 4: Create your pony

Gather hair into a mid-level ponytail, securing it with a clear elastic band. Then take a one-inch piece of hair from the pony and wrap it around the base to hide the elastic, securing hair with two bobby pins.

Step 5: Wave making

Using a 1 ¼-inch-barrel curling iron, create large bends throughout the ponytail to add additional texture. Break up the curls with a large-tooth comb for fullness.

Step 6: Hold it

Spray generously with Joico Flip Turn Volumizing Spray to keep the waves in place and minimize flyaways at the hairline.
